Car Accidents: Child Killed in DUI Crash

|

Most drivers in Tennessee have likely been warned of the dangers of drinking and driving throughout their lives. Ample data exists to support that driving under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol is a recipe for serious and fatal car accidents. Sadly, victims of one car crash are grieving the loss of a child, following negligent impaired driving by one man.

According to the accident report, a 26-year-old driver was witnessed driving erratically on the road. The man's passengers were a woman, whose age was not reported, and a 2-year-old toddler. After swerving on the road, it is believed that the man lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a tree.

The impact of the crash resulted in all three occupants being ejected from the vehicle. Even though it appeared as if the toddler was in a car seat, authorities do not believe that the child was properly restrained. Sadly, the child suffered serious injuries and did not survive. The male driver is facing a second-offense DUI as well as other charges related to the crash.

Losing a loved one in a preventable crash is certainly devastating. Following similar tragic and fatal car accidents, some families of deceased victims may find closure in filing a wrongful death lawsuit against presumed negligent drivers. Attorneys in Tennessee can assist families with understanding their legal rights and options. A civil lawsuit may generate financial compensation for some families, which may be helpful in the wake of numerous expensive medical and burial expenses.
